Photo Journal: Field of sunshine

Sunflowers cover an approximately 23-hectare hill in the Hokkaido town of Hokuryu. The town is the home to one of the largest sunflower farms in the country, with some 1.5 million sunflowers blooming for the prefecture's short summer. In recent years, the farm has seen a growing number of tourists from outside Japan, and says roughly 70 percent of visitors before the summer vacation period were from Southeast Asia. Peak blooming season is expected to continue through mid-August. (Mainichi)
