Photo Journal: Hefty haul

The first autumn haul of saury unloaded on Japan's Honshu main island is seen in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture, on Aug. 23, 2017. Among this year's maiden catch, medium-sized sauries weighing about 130 grams were particularly abundant, with the fish selling for 1,053 yen per kilogram on average at auction later that day. The head fisherman of the ship from which the first haul was unloaded, said, "I'm glad our ship made the first unloading, because that was our aim. I want to help Kesennuma become the number one spot not just in Honshu, but also in Japan, in terms of saury." (Mainichi)
