Photo Journal: Perplexing pairing

The roof of the Kaminarimon gate -- the symbol of Tokyo's Asakusa district, a popular tourism destination in Taito Ward -- looks slightly different from normal in this recent photo. A portion of the main gate to the famed Sensoji Temple is hidden by a giant tarp printed with a photo of the roof while it undergoes maintenance. The work to replace some 9,500 roof tiles -- the first refurbishment since the gate was rebuilt in 1960 -- began in June this year, and is expected to be finished in mid-October. Until then, visitors can enjoy the juxtaposition of reality and photograph when viewing the iconic gate. (Mainichi)
