OTSU -- Former Shiga Gov. Yukiko Kada disclosed on Sept. 29 that she intends to run in the Oct. 22 House of Representatives election, whose campaign period officially kicks off on Oct. 10.
"I can't overlook Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's government, which makes light of the public and uses national politics for its own benefits," 67-year-old Kada told the Mainichi Shimbun.
Former lower house Vice Speaker Tatsuo Kawabata of the largest opposition Democratic Party (DP), who has retired from politics, had asked Kada to run in the election from the Shiga No. 1 constituency as his successor.
Kada will ask Kibo no To to officially endorse her in the general election as the DP has effectively decided to merge into the party.
