Photo Journal: Rainbow river

The Ondo Bridge, rear, and Ondo No. 2 Bridge, foreground, are lit up at night over the Ondo-no-Seto Strait while the reflections of lights for vessels shimmer in the water in this recent photo. The bridges link the mainland part of the city of Kure in Hiroshima Prefecture with Kurahashi Island. Central Kure has many steel and shipbuilding factories, and before the Ondo Bridge was opened in 1961, many students and workers would cross the strait by boat. Due to an increase in traffic, the second Ondo Bridge was built, with its construction completed in 2013. The bridges are said to offer good views of the Seto Inland Sea. (Mainichi)
