Figure skating star Hanyu plans to continue competing after Winter Olympics

MOSCOW -- Figure skating superstar Yuzuru Hanyu wishes to continue his skating career after the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, he revealed here on Oct. 22 following the Rostelecom Cup, the first event in this year's figure skating Grand Prix circuit.

"I haven't decided when I will retire yet," said Hanyu. "In the future I would like to do the (quadruple) axel. As I thought, attempting it before Pyeongchang would be difficult," revealing his intention to try the quadruple axel, which has the highest amount of base points, in competition after Pyeongchang. In August 2015, the figure skater had expressed his intention to turn pro after the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Hanyu skated an elegant performance at the Rostelecom Cup exhibition on Oct. 22.
