NIRASAKI, Yamanashi -- A test run of delivering newspapers using a drone took place here on Oct. 27.
In the experiment, approximately 40 copies of a newspaper were attached to one of the largest drones in Japan. The test took place by a riverbed where the flying of aircraft is allowed.
Proposed by a local newspaper distributor, the plan began to take shape when a drone manufacturer agreed to join the project.
After taking off, the drone measuring roughly 150 square centimeters soared to a height of about 15 meters, and stayed in the air for about five minutes.
It is planned to deliver newspapers automatically to mountain areas that are difficult to reach, in about two years' time.
Speaking on this futuristic style of newspaper delivery, a spokesperson for the distributor said, "This should also be helpful in delivering supplies during disasters."
