The cascading Fukuroda Waterfall is lit up at night in the town of Daigo, Ibaraki Prefecture, in this photo taken on Nov. 3, 2017. The waterfall flows down in steps over 120 meters and is illuminated by projectors that have a variety of strength and range, according to the Daigo-machi Tourism Association. The shadowy effect produces a spectacle that looks like a Chinese ink painting. In the past, the waterfall was lit up between late November and mid-February, showing the colorful autumn leaves and the frozen waterfall in winter. However, in recent years as the waterfall has not completely frozen over, the illumination is limited to when the leaves change color in the fall. During this season the waterfall is lit up every day until Nov. 26, from sunset to 8 p.m. (Mainichi)
