Twelve restaurants have been bestowed with three stars in the Michelin Guide Kyoto Osaka 2018, an increase of two from the previous year, Nihon Michelin Tire Co. announced on Nov. 7.
The guidebook is known to rate restaurants and hotels using stars, with three being the highest award. In the latest version, 12 restaurants (eight in Kyoto and four in Osaka) were awarded the top rating, compared to 10 restaurants last year.
Japanese cuisine "Iida" in Kyoto's Nakagyo Ward and innovative cooking "Hajime" in Osaka's Nishi Ward had their ranking increased from two stars to three. Hajime had previously been awarded three stars in 2012.
This latest version of the respected restaurant guide will be released on Nov. 10.
