Photo Journal: Northern sea sighting

Crew members are seen on a boat of unknown origin that was discovered by Japan's 1st Regional Coast Guard Headquarters on the morning of Nov. 29, 2017, in this photo taken from a Mainichi Shimbun aircraft later the same morning. The wooden boat, which is about 10 meters long, was found approximately 14 kilometers northeast of Matsumae Kojima, an uninhabited island northwest of the town of Matsumae, Hokkaido. The boat is suspected to be a fishing vessel from North Korea. The coast guard plans to rescue the crew members and will consider questioning them with Hokkaido Prefectural Police. (Mainichi)
