GINOWAN, Okinawa -- A cylindrical object thought to have fallen from a U.S. military aircraft hit the roof of a day care here at about 10:20 a.m. on Dec. 7.

The Midorigaoka day care center is about 300 meters from the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma. There were children in the facility's yard when the object hit the building, but there have been no reports of injuries.

According to the Ginowan Municipal Government and other sources, the object hit the roof just after a U.S. military aircraft had flown overhead. The item is about 20 centimeters long and 7-8 centimeters in diameter, and reportedly has "U.S." written on it. The Okinawa Prefectural Police's Ginowan Station is investigating the details of the incident.
