US Marine indicted over alleged drunk-driving accident that killed man in Naha

NAHA -- The Naha District Public Prosecutors Office on Dec. 11 indicted a U.S. serviceman accused of causing a fatal traffic accident while driving under the influence of alcohol.

    In the indictment filed with the Naha District Court, 21-year-old Marine Nicholas James-McLean is accused of negligence resulting in death and driving under the influence of alcohol, in violation of the Act on Punishment of Acts Inflicting Death or Injury on Others by Driving a Motor Vehicle, etc., and the Road Traffic Act.

    According to the indictment and other case information, James-McLean ran through a red light while driving a truck in Naha at about 5:25 a.m. on Nov. 19 under the influence of alcohol. After entering the intersection, his vehicle collided with a light truck driven by a 61-year-old man, who was killed.
