Veteran pop singer Namie Amuro will make a special appearance in the New Year's Eve television show "Kohaku Uta Gassen" (Red & White Year-end Song Festival), public broadcaster NHK announced on Dec. 19.

The 40-year-old Amuro announced in September that she would be retiring from show business next year. In November, she was not among NHK's list of artists scheduled to appear in the show. However, after negotiations with the broadcaster, her special appearance was decided.

Amuro debuted in 1992, with hits such as "Chase the Chance" and "Can you Celebrate?" The singer has appeared on "Kohaku Uta Gassen" nine times from 1995 to 2003. According to a representative from NHK, the fine details of her appearance are still under discussion. These include what song she will sing and if she will be performing live along with the other artists.
