Man arrested for allegedly injuring girl's face with liquid spray

TANABE, Wakayama -- A 20-year-old man was arrested here on Dec. 20 on suspicion of spraying a liquid on an elementary school girl's face and injuring her, police said.

Yusuke Miyashita, a temporary worker of the city of Tanabe, under arrest on suspicion of assault, has admitted to the allegations, saying, "I talked to the girl and sprayed tear gas at her."

Officials at Wakayama Prefectural Police's Tanabe Police Station suspect that Miyashita approached the girl, a student at Kamihaya Elementary School who was on her way home, on a prefectural road in the Kamihaya district at around 3:05 p.m. on Dec. 19, and then sprayed a liquid on her face, causing her injuries that will take roughly three months to heal.
