Photo Journal: Ceremonial cheer

Former classmates gather together at a coming-of-age ceremony in Namie, Fukushima Prefecture, on Jan. 7, 2018. This was the first time in seven years for the municipal government to host such a ceremony in the town since the nuclear disaster at Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Fukushima No. 1 power plant in 2011. During this absence, the town had held a coming-of-age celebration in the prefecture city of Nihonmatsu until last year. Of 183 residents who have reached or will soon reach adulthood, about 110 attended the ceremony. Since many of them now live outside the town, the event was an excellent chance for the young adults to catch up with one another. (Mainichi)
