Photo Journal: Brisk frolic

A number of horses, some of which are pregnant, run in the snow at the National Livestock Breeding Center, Tokachi Station, in Otofuke, Hokkaido, on Jan. 9, 2018. The objectives behind getting the horses to run were to reduce stress -- as the animals have not had enough winter exercise -- and to prevent the pregnant horses from having to experience a difficult delivery. It is planned that the horses will run outside in the cold every morning except on weekends until the end of February. (Mainichi)
