Star music producer and musician Tetsuya Komuro announced his retirement on Jan. 19, after a magazine reported he had an extramarital affair.

"I made my fans worry and also caused trouble for the other person, and as a way of taking responsibility in my own way, I've decided to retire," he said at a news conference in Tokyo.

Komuro, 59, debuted as a member of the band TM Network in 1984. In the 1990s he was a producer for Ryoko Shinohara, Namie Amuro and Tomomi Kahara, and had a hand in a large number of platinum records.
