Photo Journal: Lapping it up

Hokkaido dog puppies born in November last year play in the snow, showing their white fur, in this recent photo taken in Sapporo. The puppies are used to cold weather and like to exercise daily. The Hokkaido dog, once called the Ainu dog, is designated as a protected species in Japan. The dogs helped Ainu people as hunters and watchdogs. The number of births of the dog decreased from 1,017 in 2005 to 584 in 2015. (Mainichi)
