Japan's Watabe clinches silver in men's Nordic combined at Pyeongchang

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea -- Japanese skier Akito Watabe won silver in the men's Nordic combined event at the Pyeongchang Olympics with a strong performance in both the ski jump and cross country skiing.

    Watabe placed third in the ski jump and finished the cross country course in second place with a time of 24 minutes, 56.2 seconds. Germany's Eric Frenzel won the event with a cross country time of 24:51.4 and Lukas Klapfer of Austria came in third in 25:09.5.

    Watabe's silver medal brought Japan's medal tally at the 2018 Winter Games to five.
