Life in the fast lane: Tokyo man arrested for speeding down expressway at 235 kph

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Traffic Section arrested a man on March 1 for allegedly driving at a whopping 235 kilometers per hour on the Chuo Expressway, it has been learned.

Yoshimune Shirai, 41, of Tokyo's Setagaya Ward, stands accused of violating the Road Traffic Act for allegedly driving 135 kph over the legal limit on the Chuo Expressway in the suburban Tokyo city of Kunitachi at roughly 4:15 a.m. on Jan. 29, 2016. The traffic section says the case makes history as the fastest-ever speeding violation. The suspect is reportedly denying the charges.

According to the traffic section, Shirai was at the wheel of a U.S. Dodge Challenger, known as a "monster level sports car." While the car was driven without a front plate, the suspect appeared in a photo taken by the Orbis speeding violation traffic enforcement camera on the highway, leading to his arrest.
