Photo Journal: Polka dot spot

Colorful "roketsuzome" textiles -- a traditional technique using wax to make patterns -- are displayed between the floors along the commercial concourse at the Palaceside Building, which houses the Tokyo headquarters of The Mainichi Newspapers Co., in this recent photo. Akihiko Okada, a 60-year-old dyeing artist based in Kyoto, planned the exhibition for cherry blossom season. The Palaceside Building is across the street from the Imperial Palace, which has some popular viewing points for cherry blossoms in and around it, and the building's restaurants and cafes are crowded with sightseers. The exhibition runs until April 7. (Mainichi)
