NHK Twitter account sends false earthquake report

Public broadcaster NHK sent a mistaken earthquake report on its official Twitter account at about 8:51 a.m. on April 2.

The "NHK life and disaster prevention" account tweet stated that there had been an earthquake measuring 4 on the Japanese 7-point seismic intensity scale in the Nakadori region of Fukushima Prefecture and northern Ibaraki Prefecture. However, there had been no quake.

NHK deleted the tweet about four minutes later and issued a correction. According to the NHK public relations office, it is thought that there was a problem with a part of the report system.
