Photo Journal: A taste of Kyoto tradition


Guests enjoy outdoor dining with geisha and maiko (apprentice geisha) on a terrace at the traditional restaurant "Ikumatsu" along the Kamo River in Kyoto Prefecture, on May 1, 2018. Commenting on the experience, Keiko Shimada, 67, from Yao, Osaka Prefecture, said, "This is my first time to enjoy outdoor dining here. The fresh green colors of the leaves are beautiful." In the city of Kyoto, the temperature reached 29.5 degrees Celsius on May 1, and visitors enjoyed the atmosphere with a cool breeze coming off the river. The terrace dining season runs through the end of September. (Mainichi)
