Photo Journal: Sky high swimmer

A carp streamer about 100 meters long "swims" in the wind above a park along the Tone River in Kazo, Saitama Prefecture, on May 4, 2018 -- the day before Children's Day holiday in Japan. May 4 also marked Kazo's annual citizens' festival, and about 115,000 people gathered at the park on the riverbank, organizers say. Visitors clapped and cheered as "the world's largest carp streamer" was hoisted into the air by crane and caught the balmy spring wind. Ten-year-old Yuto Teshima commented, "The carp streamers are going up even though the wind is weak." Kazo is famous for making carp streamers, a traditional Children's Day decoration, and the local branch of the Junior Chamber International Japan, among others, created the jumbo version for a 1988 city revitalization project.
