Photo Journal: Gifts of gratitude

Tourists receive handkerchiefs commemorating the 40th anniversary of the opening of Narita International Airport in Narita, Chiba Prefecture, on May 20, 2018. Narita International Airport Corp. (NAA) employees provided about 12,000 handkerchiefs to passengers and visitors. NAA announced in Japanese and English at 10:00 a.m. on the day that it is grateful to the passengers, visitors and other people who use the airport, and asked for their continuous support. "Narita Airport is a place where I feel nervous when I leave Japan and feel relaxed when I return to Japan," part-time worker Tomoko Arakawa, 73, from Kiyose, Tokyo, said as she departed for Taiwan. Chiaki Takano, 52, and her daughter Ai, 29, from Ibaraki Prefecture remembered when each of them departed the airport for their honeymoons. Chiaki said, "This is where us newlyweds at the time marked our first steps." (Mainichi)
