Ex-American football team head coach resigns as Nihon Univ. director following dirty tackle scandal

Masato Uchida (Mainichi)

TOKYO -- Nihon University announced on June 1 that Masato Uchida, former head coach of the school's American football team embroiled in a dirty tackle scandal, had resigned as managing director and director of the university as of May 30.

The move comes in response to the highly publicized dangerous tackle by a Nihon University linebacker against a Kwansei Gakuin University quarterback in a May 6 game. Uchida, 62, is accused of ordering the foul play, although he denies the allegation.
