Prince Akishino joins convention of people of Japanese ancestry in Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- Japan's Prince Akishino and his wife Princess Kiko participated in the 59th Convention of Nikkei and Japanese Abroad here on the morning of June 6 (June 7 in Japan).

In a speech at the opening ceremony, Prince Akishino said, "I'm happy and reassured that you have made continuous efforts and taken a lively role in many areas, and received considerable trust from local communities."

About 300 people of Japanese ancestry from 15 countries gathered in the convention. Applause broke out for every country introduction.
