Quake traps people in elevators across Kansai region

People were trapped in elevators across the Kansai region in western Japan after a magnitude-6.1 quake shook the area on the morning of June 18.

According to Nara Prefectural Police, four people were trapped in an elevator in a care facility in Yamatokoriyama, Nara Prefecture, and were rescued after a short time. Two men were stuck in an elevator in JR Koriyama Station in Yamato-Koriyama, also in Nara Prefecture, but were rescued shortly afterwards.

A 50-year-old man was trapped in an elevator in an apartment building in Kusatsu, Shiga Prefecture, and was rescued without injury after about an hour. There were also cases of people being stuck in elevators in Kyoto and other regional cities.
