Photo Journal: Samurai Blue fever flourishes in Fukushima

Officials of the Hirono Municipal Government in Fukushima Prefecture wear Japan's national soccer team uniform on June 19, 2018, ahead of the team's World Cup opener against Colombia, which Japan won 2-1. The whole town of Hirono was subject to an evacuation order in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in March 2011. J-Village, the national training center for the national soccer team, is located in Hirono, but it became an accident response center after the disaster. Some 84 percent of residents have since returned to the town and some facilities at the center will reopen in July. The officials will wear the uniforms on the day of Japan's games, and an official in charge of reconstruction said, "I hope the players show us how to struggle with adversity and encourage people who live in areas struck by the disasters."
