TOKYO -- A magnitude 6.0 earthquake jolted the Kanto region, including the Tokyo metropolitan area, on the night of July 7, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. No tsunami warning was issued.
The earthquake, which struck at around 8:23 p.m., registered a lower 5 on the 7-point Japanese seismic intensity scale in northeastern Chiba Prefecture and a 4 in the southern and northwestern part of the prefecture. The temblor came in at an intensity of 3 in a wide area across the Kanto region, including Tokyo and Yokohama.
The epicenter of the earthquake was about 50 kilometers below the seafloor off the eastern Pacific coast of Chiba Prefecture.
