OGUNI, Kumamoto -- Nabegataki Falls, famous for its wide curtain of water, is attracting many visitors seeking to cool off amid the current heat wave.

The waterfall is about 20 meters wide and approximately 10 meters high. The area behind the cascade is spacious and the beautiful views through the water make it a popular place for people to admire the natural scenery. The site is also a great place to cool down in the hot weather of summer.

About 1,000 people per day have been visiting the site, which is more than an average year. The waterfall was created from bedrock transformed from volcanic ash which accumulated when Mount Aso explosively erupted many years ago.
