TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Keisuke Honda, the only Japanese to score at three World Cups, said Thursday his next goal is to play for Japan at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
"I aspire to play in the Tokyo Olympics in two years, and I'm going to keep playing," he said in an internet broadcast, stating his desire to be one of three players over the age of 23 that Japan can call upon for the Olympic men's tournament.
When Japan was knocked out of this summer's World Cup finals in Russia, Honda said it would be his last World Cup, but he refused to be pinned down about whether or not he would continue playing club football.
Honda, who played this past season with Mexican club Pachuca, may soon sign to play in Australia with the A-League's Melbourne Victory. Honda said that if the details of a move are agreed to, "an announcement could be made within the next few days."
