Okinawa native pop singer Namie Amuro, who received an Okinawa prefectural honor award in May, posted a comment on her website on Aug. 9, expressing condolences over the death of Gov. Takeshi Onaga, who passed away the previous day of pancreatic cancer.

"I hope that the dying wish of Gov. Onaga, who was considerate and contributed to Okinawa, will be respected, and that Okinawa will continue to be loved by many people," Amuro commented in her post.
