Photo Journal: Human chain of peace

About 120 high school students and other youths hold hands in a circle, forming a "human chain" at Bakushinchi (Hypocenter) Park in Nagasaki on the morning of Aug. 9, 2018, to express hope for a peaceful world without nuclear weapons. Youths attended from South Korea and the United States, alongside Japanese members of the "Nagasaki Youth Peace Messengers," who handed a petition calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons to the United Nations. After offering a silent prayer to those who lost their lives, participants made a human chain encircling the monument marking the place where the atomic bomb was dropped. Participants called to "spread the feelings of hibakusha (atomic bomb survivors) around the world." (Mainichi)
