Photo Journal: Getting ready to take center stage

The "Takamikura" stage, which is used for the enthronement ceremony for a new emperor, is disassembled at the Kyoto Imperial Palace in Kyoto's Kamigyo Ward on Aug. 20, 2018, for possible repair and transportation to Tokyo. The Imperial Household Agency opened the second disassembling procedure to the press, and workers removed red parapets and stairs carefully using wooden hammers and other tools. The stage weighs about 8 metric tons and is roughly 6.5 meters high. It will be transported to Tokyo overland in September. The official ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Imperial Palace on Oct. 22, 2019. (Mainichi)
