Photo Journal: Team players

Nine piglets were born at Akita Prefectural Kanaashi Nogyo High School in Akita Prefecture in northern Japan on Aug. 18, 2018, the same day its nine players on the school's baseball team came from behind to beat Ohmi High School from the western Japan prefecture of Shiga in the National High School Baseball Championship. Students in the bioresource department of the agricultural high school are helping to raise the piglets, which have become popular on social media, and the team's infielder Yusuke Takahashi belongs to the department. Commenting on the piglets' birth and the team's powerful run, school teacher Akira Miyakoshi said, "I feel like the nine piglets encouraged the team to achieve a major breakthrough." Despite Kanaashi Nogyo's underdog success in the tournament, the team couldn't overcome Osaka Toin High School in the final, losing 13-2.
