FUNABASHI, Chiba -- A 25-year-old woman reported being stabbed by an unknown assailant on a street here on Aug. 25, sparking a search for the man, police said.
The woman made an emergency call at around 12:15 a.m., and the woman was taken to the hospital with serious stab wounds to her right side below her ribs. Police in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, are currently searching for the man's whereabouts on suspicion of attempted murder.
According to Funabashi-higashi Police Station, the woman was on her way home from Takanekodan Station on Shinkeisei Electric Railway Co.'s Shin-Keisei Line when a man in front of her suddenly walked toward her silently and stabbed her. The woman made an emergency call from her mobile phone.
The man reportedly looked to be in his 30s, was about 170 centimeters tall and was slightly overweight. He was wearing a black or similarly dark-colored T-shirt and shorts, and had close-cropped hair.
