Visitors and local residents walk around large torches in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, at the bottom of Mount Fuji, on Aug. 26, 2018 during "Yoshida no Himatsuri" (Fire festival in Fujiyoshida). The event has been designated as a national important intangible folk culture properties, and is considered one of the three major unique festivals of Japan. Some 96 torches as tall as approximately 3 meters stretched about two kilometers. It is believed that the festival began about 400 years ago, after a myth that the deity of Kitaguchihongu Fuji Sengenjinja shrine delivered a child at a room surrounded by fire. (Mainichi)
