Photo Journal: Festive train

(Mainichi/Masamitsu Kurokawa)

Hello Kitty, dressed in a stationmaster's uniform, poses alongside other popular Sanrio Co. characters in front of a decorated 10-car train in the Tokyo suburban city of Inagi on Oct. 31, 2018. Private railway operator Keio Corp. started running the train decorated with Sanrio characters from Nov. 1 to promote tourism in the Tama district of western Tokyo, including the "Sanrio Puroland" theme park near Keio-tama-center Station on the Keio Sagamihara Line. The decorated carriages are running on the line as well as the Keio Line and the connected Toei Shinjuku Line. Hello Kitty's official birthday was on Nov. 1. The day also marked the 47th anniversary of the city's incorporation, where Keio's headquarters is based. A Keio employee stated, "We want to bring excitement to the Tama district by running a festive train in the heart of the capital."
