TOKYO -- Divers dressed as Santa Claus and a reindeer have been gaining popularity at Sunshine Aquarium in the capital's Toshima Ward ahead of Christmas Day.

In the aquarium's "Santa Dive" show, Santa and the accompanying reindeer dive into the "Sunshine Lagoon," a tank holding about 240 tons of water. They then give some 1,400 fish spanning 45 species "presents" of vegetables and shrimp.

A 30-year-old housewife from Saitama Prefecture who visited the aquarium with her 16-month-old son, commented, "I got an early taste of Christmas."

The performances can be enjoyed until Dec. 25. Each show lasts about 10 minutes and is carried out four times a day. From Dec. 22 to 25, the show is scheduled to be held five times a day.
