Japanese macaques enjoy a dip in a hot spring at Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden at the Yunokawa hot spring resort in Hakodate, Hokkaido, in this recent photo. The facility pumps in hot water from the local Yunokawa hot springs to an 18-square-meter pool at the garden and cools the hot water from about 63 degrees Celsius to around 40 degrees. A total of 75 Japanese snow monkeys in captivity take turns bathing. The event has been widely promoted in international media, and many tourists from home and abroad visit Hakodate to see the monkeys. Kayoko Kasai, the director of the facility, said, "I hope people will enjoy each of the monkey's respective expressions." Visitors can enjoy watching the monkeys bathe through early May.
