Photo Journal: Focal point above the fog

(Mainichi/Naohiro Yamada)

Abeno Harukas, the tallest building in Japan at 300 meters, stands high above dense fog covering the city of Osaka in western Japan on the morning of Dec. 21, 2018, in this picture taken from a Mainichi Shimbun helicopter. The dense fog that blanketed a wide area of the Kinki region emerged as a moisture-rich atmosphere near the surface of the soil brought by rain the previous day was condensed by low temperatures. Due to low visibility mainly in Shiga Prefecture from the fog, some train services along the Tokaido and Sanyo lines were delayed by up to around 20 minutes, according to the West Japan Railway Co.
