Photo Journal: Clear view

(Mainichi/Hideo Takahashi)

Mount Fuji is clearly seen without any utility poles or electric cables obstructing the view from the tourist information center for Shiraito Falls in the city of Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture, in central Japan, on Jan. 8, 2019. The prefectural government has recently completed a project to remove utility poles around the falls, which are part of a World Heritage site. The project started in fiscal 2015 and was in its final stages in the middle of December. A total of 10 power poles and 540 meters of electric cables on a 400-meter section of road leading to the entrance of the falls were removed and the cables were placed underground.
