ATAMI, Shizuoka -- Plum blossoms are at their best at Atami Plum Garden in this hot spring resort city southwest of Tokyo, as visitors enjoy taking photographs of the pink and white spectacle.
The garden has 472 plum trees of 59 different varieties on its about 40,000-square- meter site. According to the city tourism association, this winter the flowers are blooming at the same time as an average year after they were delayed due to cold weather last winter.
Late-blooming species have also begun to flower and they will be able to be enjoyed until around late February. A festival with various events to enjoy plum blossoms is ongoing at the garden until March 3.
