TOKYO -- Popular entertainer Becky tweeted on Feb. 13 that she has married Yasuyuki Kataoka, a coach with Nippon Professional Baseball's Yomiuri Giants.
"I would like to go ahead slowly and steadily, always with a sense of gratitude in mind," wrote the 34-year-old celebrity. "I would appreciate your continued support." Kataoka, the Giants' infield and base running coach, issued a statement via the team saying, "The two of us would like to proceed slowly and steadily."
Becky, a native of Kanagawa Prefecture south of Tokyo, was born to a British father and a Japanese mother. She joined the entertainment industry in 1998, and has been active as an actress and singer.
Kataoka, 35, graduated from Utsunomiya Gakuen High School before joining the Tokyo Gas Co. baseball team of Japan's industrial league. He became a professional player when he joined the Seibu Lions in 2004. He led the Pacific League in stolen bases for four years in a row from 2007 to 2010, and moved to the Yomiuri Giants as a free agent in 2014. He retired from playing in 2017.
