Guests enjoy a below freezing accommodation experience at Hoshino Resorts Tomamu's "Ice Hotel" in the village of Shimukappu in the northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido in this recent photo. Most of the guests are from Japan's main island of Honshu. This particular room is available to only one group per day and is booked until the end of February, when the winter-only room will close. The dome-shaped room is about 8.5 meters in diameter and up to 3.5 meters floor-to-ceiling. A bed big enough for two, tables, chairs, and a sofa are all made from ice, and guests sleep in sleeping bags. One feature popular among guests is the "Outdoor Ice Bath," a tub of warm water surrounded by giant blocks of ice, set in a forest of white birch.
