CHIBA -- The mother of Mia Kurihara, a 10-year-old girl who died after suspected abuse from her parents, did not feed the daughter on an unspecified number of occasions apparently in line with her husband's abusive behavior toward Mia, sources close to the investigation said.
"There were times when I didn't feed my daughter on my own will," Nagisa Kurihara, 32, was quoted as telling investigators. Nagisa and her husband Yuichiro, 41, have been under arrest for allegedly inflicting bodily injuries on Mia, who was found dead at their home in Noda, Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, in late January.
Chiba Prefectural Police suspect that Nagisa went along with her husband in abusing their daughter since late last year.
According to the investigative sources, Nagisa said, "There was a time when I didn't give her two meals back to back. I also had her spend the time in the corridor or inside the bathroom," when she was asked about what had transpired at their home from late last year through the beginning of this year.
Prefectural police officials have determined that Nagisa conspired with Yuichiro in that she didn't feed Mia properly, failed to take her to the hospital for treatment of her injuries, or to stop her husband from assaulting Mia.
Both Nagisa and Yuichiro have been served fresh arrest warrants for allegedly teaming up to cause injuries to Mia, which resulted in her suffering bruises to the face and broken chest bones, between around Dec. 30, 2018, and Jan. 3 this year.
