TOKYO -- Pierre Taki, a member of the Japanese techno-pop group Denki Groove, told investigators following his arrest for alleged cocaine use that he had used illegal drugs from decades ago, those close to the investigation said.

"I had used cocaine and cannabis since I was in my 20s," the 51-year-old Taki, who doubles as an actor, was quoted as telling investigators at the Narcotics Control Department of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's Kanto-Shinetsu Regional Bureau of Health and Welfare.

The department suspects that Taki had habitually used unlawful drugs.

Taki, whose real name is Masanori Taki, was arrested on March 12 on suspicion of using cocaine in Tokyo or another area near the capital.
