71 dead after ferry sinks in Iraq's Tigris River

ANKARA (Kyodo) -- A ferry sank in the Tigris River near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Thursday, killing at least 71 people, mostly women and children, according to reports from Iraq.

    The ship was overloaded with people celebrating Newroz, which marks the Kurdish new year, the reports said. Local authorities have rescued 55 people.
