(Mainichi/Daiki Takikawa)

A "mikoshi" portable shrine is paraded at Kanda Myojin Shrine in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward after it was carried through the Kanda district in the city center on May 12, 2019, during the Kanda Festival, known as one of the three major festivals from the Edo period. About 200 mikoshi from more than 100 local associations comprising shrinegoers participated in the festival and some 80 mikoshi entered the premises of the shrine on the day. The festival is held every two years and this year's event also celebrated the May 1 enthronement of Emperor Naruhito.
